International Hat’s Art Competition

International Hat’s Art Competition consists of the organisation of a competition every two years, on a given theme send out to creators.

About one hundred hats are selected by a fashion professional panel and are shown during a summer exhibition. Prize giving and creators’ welcome take place during a celebratory weekend with a fashion show.

This event gathers designers from the whole world and is part of the safeguarding of hat-makers and milliners savoir-faire. It strengthens the place of the Atelier-Musée du Chapeau as an unmissable place for hats designers and contributes to creation’s renewal.


This event’s purpose is also to make the public informed about fashion actuality and show them how this artistic environment is alive.

From 1997 to 2007, Hermès House supported this event. 2009 and 2011 Competitions were sponsored by Jean-Paul Gaultier House. From 2014 to 2018 and in 2023, the well-known English milliner Stephen Jones was the president of the competition. The president of the 13th occasion in 2021 was the French haute couture creator Franck Sorbier.


The last International Hat’s Art Competition took place in 2023. The theme was “Renouveau” [Renewal].
